The lava grill is a device consisting of a grate, a tray in which volcanic lava stones are placed, and electric heating elements or gas burners that heat the stones.
Lava stones distribute heat evenly across the grill surface and absorb fat that drips from the grate. When fat hits the hot stones, it begins to smoke and provides the dish with a pleasant aroma. No additional fat (animal or vegetable) is needed when cooking on a lava grill.
